Orange Region wines are again in the spotlight with the Highland Heritage Mt Canobolas Riesling 2019 announced as the Riesling Wine of the Year by Winestate Magazine.
Part of the Winestate Top Five Wine of the Year Award placements, the trophy was judged from 550 four- and five-star wines submitted for review over the 2020 calendar year.
Highland Heritage General Manager, Rex D’Aquino, explained it was a significant accolade for the winery and the region. The winning drop was made by Ross Hill Winery’s, Luke Steel, a talented local winemaker.
“Out of 550 wines we were the top wine Australia wide,” Mr D’Aquino outlined. “A number of our wines were also recognised in other categories including our Sauvignon Blanc, Rosé, Shiraz, and Sparkling Pinot Noir Chardonnay.
“These results back up the fact that we are producing excellent wines and that we are doing it in an outstanding cool climate wine region which is proving perfect for wines like Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc.
“It’s good for us and it’s good for Orange. The Orange Wine Region is really getting put on the map. These awards are a great place to be acknowledged.
“The win puts our wines in perspective in relation to everything on the market. It really is all about brand awareness – us as Highland Heritage and the Orange Region as a whole.”
Highland Heritage is part of the D’Aquino Group of Companies. Winemaking for the D’Aquino’s began in a tin shed in 1946 establishing them as the first winemaking family in the Orange district. Rex has continued to expand the business which now incorporates wholesale, retail, and contract bottling.
